Yale Announces “Innovation to Impact” Program

Table of Contents

Drug abuse has become so prevalent in the United States that regulators, healthcare providers, and even educators have been searching for new ways to find solutions to these pressing issues. Simply punishing addicts for behavior that they are unable to control has been proven to be ineffective, so more innovative methods are needed. Anew program at Yale Universityseeks to encourage these innovative solutions to addiction, particularly as they relate to the opioid abuse problem.

The Substance Abuse Issue in This Country

The nation’s addiction problems are serious and require real solutions to create change. According to the latestNational Survey on Drug Use and Health, about 20.8 million people in this country suffer from a substance use disorder. Treatment and prevention of these deadly disorders can cost as much as $193 billion each year. A good portion of those funds is spent on research to develop new ways to fight and treat drug addiction. A new program sponsored by Yale University aims to promote even more innovation in these areas.

Yale’s New Program Encourages Substance Abuse Treatment Solutions

On Nov. 15, Yale University announced a new initiative named “Innovation to Impact” that is designed to quickly bring innovative substance abuse treatment solutions to market, including those that can battleopioid addiction. Scheduled to launch from April 23-27, 2018, this new program is a good fit for any entrepreneur or innovator in the US who would like to learn how to apply innovative solutions to drug abuse and bring those solutions to market quickly.

Even though there are large budgets for research spent on addiction each year, many innovations do not make it past the lab because scientists and innovators do not understand the basics of commercializing their solutions. If a researcher is accepted into the new program, he or she will be provided with the tools and education necessary to help bring his or her ideas to market. Yale’s new program also features ongoing mentorship and even seed funding for select innovators.
